Why Work With a Therapy Intern?

A therapy intern is a Masters level student who is completing their practicum component towards a degree in Counselling Psychology. They have completed the foundational courses to be knowledgable and skilled in providing counselling services under the direct supervision of a Registered Psychotherapist. Interns are required to fulfil strict requirements and obtain adequate clinical counselling hours in order to graduate.

Therapy interns are eager to help, bring forth an abundance of knowledge, and offer a fresh perspective from modern counselling techniques.

Our therapy interns are equipped to help you with the following:

When working with a therapy intern, you can be confident that you are receiving quality treatment. Interns meet regularly with their supervisors and peers to discuss cases and collaborate on treatment plans. So, you essentially have two therapists looking out for your wellbeing! And not only are they helping you by providing affordable therapy in Barrie and virtually across Ontario, but you are helping them as well by contributing to their professional growth and training as a therapist!

About Our Affordable Therapy Program

As a client of our affordable therapy program, you will receive the same dedicated and compassionate care as any other client, but there are some eligibility criteria and expectations that need to be met before joining:

  • You are a resident of Ontario 12+ years of age

  • Ideally, you have exhausted your extended health benefits or do not have any coverage. However, we recognize that it can be beneficial for people to get more out of their benefits by accessing services at a lower rate. Our interns are Registered Psychotherapists (Qualifying) so most companies will reimburse for counselling services, but please check this ahead of time.

  • You intend to commit to a minimum of 5 sessions booked weekly or biweekly (or as discussed with your therapist)

  • You are not experiencing severe mental illness/psychiatric issues (e.g., psychosis, severe eating disorder warranting medical intervention, active suicidality with intent/plan to suicide), addictions (alcohol or illicit drugs) or active abuse

  • You understand that the program is short-term, meaning that once the student graduates, there may not be the option to continue at a reduced rate with them. However, you can be referred to another student therapist to stay within the program

Our affordable therapy sessions are offered at a rate of $70/session. Book your free consultation to get started! Your therapist intern will discuss suitability of the program with you during your consultation.

Hi there, I’m Hanna! I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and clinical intern completing my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Guelph. I strive to ensure individuals feel safe, supported and heard by providing an empathetic and non-judgmental environment.

I am particularly drawn to helping teenagers and young adults due to my personal and professional experience with mental health challenges at this stage of life. I recognize that today’s youth face unique challenges and have a passion for assisting them in managing and overcoming these struggles.

As a therapist, I prioritize a collaborative approach where we will work together towards achieving your desired goals. I often draw from modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and strength-based approaches as I believe in the importance of empowering clients and reinforcing strengths to create positive change.
