Stress & Burnout Therapy Can Help You:

Man's domestic lifestyle

If you’re the one who takes on too much and finds it hard to say no, we’ll help you set clearer limits on your time and energy and feel okay about it.

Burnout lives in the body too. We’ll help with the tension, headaches, restlessness, and exhaustion, using relaxation and nervous-system tools to help you unwind.

Caring for others is exhausting, particularly when there’s nothing left for you. We’ll help you refill your own cup without the guilt.

When school, high standards, or the pressure to perform is wearing you or your teen down, we’ll help you manage it in a way that feels more doable.

Big changes like getting married, having a baby, changing jobs, or moving can leave you stretched thin and overwhelmed. We’ll help you find steadier ground as you move through them.

Understand and gently shift the thought patterns that keep you overloaded.

Questions About Stress & Burnout Therapy

Stress and burnout can feel similar, but there are some key differences:

Stress

  • Usually tied to a specific situation or a period of high demand
  • You might feel overwhelmed, reactive, or constantly “on”
  • Even when things are difficult, you can often push through
  • Usually eases once the situation calms down and you’ve had some rest

Burnout

  • Builds gradually from chronic stress without enough recovery
  • Feeling emotionally and physically drained
  • Feeling exhausted, detached, or like there’s nothing left to give
  • Rest doesn’t seem to restore your energy

In a nutshell, stress is being in overdrive or a reactive state, while burnout is depletion, disconnection, and running on empty. However you’re feeling, whether you’re trying to get a handle on stress or you’re deep in burnout, our team of burnout therapists in Barrie and across Ontario is here to support you, so you can get back to feeling like yourself and start living again.

Burnout tends to build over time, so recovery often takes a bit of time too, and everyone’s journey is different. Some people start to notice small changes within the first few sessions, particularly as they step out of constant survival mode and start adjusting their workload, expectations, and boundaries.

More meaningful change often happens over a few months, as you rebuild your energy, create more sustainable routines, and ease the patterns that led to burnout in the first place. Recovery isn’t only about resting; it’s about making changes that let you function in a way that feels manageable long-term. We’ll help you do that at a pace that feels realistic and supportive.

Not necessarily! While time away can help in some cases, a lot of people are able to start recovering without taking a leave of absence. That often means making changes like setting clearer boundaries, adjusting your workload or expectations, and finding more sustainable ways to manage your responsibilities with your job, partner, child or teen, or social life.

That said, if your work environment is a significant, ongoing source of stress, it may be worth taking a closer look at whether it’s the right fit for you and your mental health long-term. We’ll work with you to understand your specific situation and figure out what changes would help most, without rushing into any big decisions before you feel ready.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, constantly “on,” or like you’re running on empty, counselling for stress and burnout can definitely help. It’s really common for people dealing with chronic stress or burnout to be the ones everyone else relies on, the people who push through, hold themselves to high standards, and take on more than they’ve got capacity for because it’s hard to say no. Because of that, asking for help can feel uncomfortable.

If you’ve been feeling stretched thin and finding it hard to slow down or set limits, therapy can help you understand those patterns and build more sustainable ways of managing your time, energy, and responsibilities. Starting therapy doesn’t mean you’ve failed; it means you’ve noticed something isn’t working and you’re open to support. We all need help sometimes, and there’s real strength in asking for it. You don’t have to wear your burnout as a badge of honour to prove your worth.

Easy. If you’re in Barrie or anywhere across Ontario, we offer both in-person and virtual therapy for stress and burnout. Getting started doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. We keep the process as simple and straightforward as possible, because the last thing you need is another daunting task on your to-do list. Feel free to browse our team and book a complimentary consultation online, or reach out, and we’ll help match you with a therapist.

Session fees at Inner Growth Counselling & Psychotherapy depend on which therapist you see and the length of your session. Counselling sessions are $170 for a 50-minute session with a full RP, or $160 with an RP (Qualifying). If you’d like a bit more time, 75-minute sessions are $250 with a full RP, or $225 with an RP (Qualifying).

If budget is an issue, our Affordable Therapy Program pairs you with one of our Master’s Clinical Interns at $100 per session.

Yes, and this is a really common worry, since therapy can’t magically change your workload or your boss. What it can do is help you respond to those realities differently, with clearer boundaries, better stress-management tools, and a more sustainable way of coping day to day. Sometimes the work is about managing an unavoidable situation better, and sometimes it’s about getting clarity on whether something bigger needs to change. Either way, we are here to figure it out with you. Book a free consultation to get started.

Absolutely. Burnout gets talked about like it’s only a work thing, but it shows up just as often from the load at home, whether that’s parenting, caregiving for a family member, managing a household with a partner and children or teens, or juggling all of it at once. That kind of stress can be relentless, particularly since there’s no clocking out from it. We support you with the mental load, the guilt, and the running-on-empty feeling that comes with always being the one holding it together, and we’ll help you find ways to care for yourself in the middle of caring for everyone else.

They can overlap and share some symptoms, like exhaustion and low motivation, but they’re not quite the same. Burnout is usually tied to chronic stress, often from work or caregiving, and tends to ease when those demands and your recovery change. Depression tends to reach into more areas of life and can show up even when the stressor isn’t there. The two can also feed into each other. If you’re not sure which you’re dealing with, that’s okay. We’ll help you make sense of it. Book a free consultation to begin.

Yes, and honestly, when you’re already stretched thin, not having to factor in a commute can make a real difference.
