Questions About ADHD Therapy

No, you don’t need a formal diagnosis to begin. A lot of people come to therapy simply because they relate to the ADHD challenges and want support. We can start by working with what you’re experiencing, and if a diagnosis would be helpful down the line, we can talk through that process together. Just so you know, we don’t provide formal diagnoses or assessments ourselves, but we can point you in the right direction if that’s something you’d like to explore.

ADHD can look like a lot of other things, like anxiety, stress, and burnout, particularly in adulthood. The difference is that ADHD tends to be ongoing and consistent over time, and not just tied to one stressful stretch. You might notice patterns like trouble starting or finishing tasks, chronic procrastination, big emotions that are hard to manage, forgetfulness, or feeling mentally all over the place, even when you care about what you’re doing.

Counselling for ADHD in Barrie can help you make sense of these patterns and, if needed, point you toward a formal assessment if that feels important to you. Either way, whether you truly have ADHD or you’re struggling with similar challenges, our therapists ADHD can still help.

Yes. Therapy can be really helpful for ADHD at any age, from children to teens to adults, particularly when it focuses on both practical strategies and understanding the patterns underneath. That might mean building routines and structure, improving your task follow-through, and finding ways to manage time and overwhelm more effectively. It also gives you space to work through the anxiety, frustration, self-criticism, low self-esteem, and burnout that so often come with ADHD.

ADHD looks different in everyone, so the answer varies. Some people manage well with therapy and practical strategies alone, while others find that medication gives them some extra support. Medication can help improve focus, ease mental overwhelm, and make it easier to follow through on tasks, so the tools you’re building in therapy become easier to use day-to-day. It’s a personal choice, and we’re happy to support you whichever way you go.

Our session fees with an ADHD psychologist or therapist depend on which therapist you see and the length of your session. ADHD counselling sessions are $170 for a 50-minute session with a full RP or $160 with an RP (Qualifying). If you’d like a bit more time, 75-minute sessions are $250 with a full RP, or $225 with an RP (Qualifying).

If budget is a blocker, our Affordable Therapy Program pairs you with one of our Master’s Clinical Interns at $100 per session, so cost doesn’t have to stand between you and the support you’re looking for.

We don’t provide formal ADHD assessments or diagnoses ourselves, since that’s done by a psychologist, psychiatrist, or certain medical providers. What we do offer is counselling for ADHD, the tools, support, and understanding side of things, whether you’ve been formally diagnosed or you just relate to the challenges. If a formal assessment would be helpful for you, we’re happy to point you in the right direction, and then we can support you with the daily management either way.

Absolutely. ADHD often shows up at school first, so a lot of parents come to us when their child’s struggling to sit still, finish homework, follow instructions, or manage big emotions, and getting into trouble more than their classmates as a result. Therapy for kids and teens with ADHD is hands-on and tailored to their age, helping them build focus, routines, and coping tools that stick. We’ll often loop you in with parent support too, so you can reinforce those strategies at home.

Yes, and a lot of people with ADHD find virtual sessions really convenient. Our online counselling for ADHD runs right across Ontario, so you can meet from home, on a break, or wherever works. It’s one less thing to organize. Some people prefer coming into our Barrie office for that in-person feel, and both work well. We’ll figure out together what suits you best, and you can always switch it up as you go.

They overlap, and there’s no hard line between them. ADHD coaching tends to focus purely on the practical stuff, like time management, organization, and building systems. ADHD therapy covers those practical tools too, and it also makes space for the emotional side, the self-criticism, low self-esteem, and stress that so often come along with ADHD. Since we blend both, you get the strategies and the deeper support in one place, so you’re not just managing tasks; you’re feeling better about yourself too.

Yes! Our team has a group of Barrie ADHD therapists who offer both in-person and online support, so you can access therapy for ADHD in a way that’s convenient for you. A lot of our ADHD therapists in Barrie have ADHD themselves, so they truly get the day-to-day struggles and little nuances of living with it. If you’re in Barrie or anywhere across Ontario, we’ve got you covered. Book a free consultation to begin.
